Web Accessibility
The right to access web site information
by people with sensory impairments or physical disabilities
is enshrined in UK law by the Disability Discrimination Act
1997 (DDA).
The BSi has recently (March 2006) issued the 'Guide to good
practice in commissioning accessible websites'. This is essential
reading for those who are planning a new website project.
It is in your interests that your website complies
with this legislation. Wensley House Limited develop
and publish web sites that fully meet, and exceed, the current
requirements.
Look out for the following indications of standards
compliance;
 |
Indicates that the html
scripting meets the World Wide Web consortium (W3C)standards. |
 |
Indicates that the cascading
styles sheet used meets the W3C standards. |
 |
Content Accessibility Guidelines
conformance levels - A (Priority 1 items), AA (Priority
1 and 2 items) and AAA (Priority 1, 2 and 3 items).
|
 |
Indicates that the page
has been tested for compliance using
www.bobby.watchfire.com. A is the lowest acceptable
rating, AAA the highest. |
These levels of compliance, verified by testing, are required
to ensure that specialised, e.g. speaking, browsers can successfully
interpret the page content and that people with problems with
dexterity can easily navigate your site. Don't accept
anything less - you could be in breach of the law.
